Atkinson Common
Atkinson Common is an unusual blend of historic structures, commemorative monuments and elaborate gardens. The challenge for the Belleville Improvement Society is to respect each of these interests while protecting the historic aspects of the park and gardens.
The Belleville Improvement Society
The Belleville Improvement Society is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. For over 100 years, the Society has existed to maintain, preserve and beautify Atkinson Common.
The Public Park and Garden
By the early 1900's, Atkinson Common was characterized by elaborate gardens and graceful walkways. The lily Pond and the gazebo date back to the late 1800's. The commemorative monuments were dedicated to the City of Newburyport by 1913 and the Works Progress Administration built the stone observation tower in the late 1930s.

2012 SEASON HAS SPRUNG!!
ADOPT-A-BED & ADOPT-A-TREE
PROGRAM IS IN FULL SWING.
Belleville Improvement Society is now accepting donations for our 2012 Season. All proceeds are used to maintain, beautify and expand the existing botanical attractions. The Park was devastated during the storm of February 25, 2010 whereby a significant amount of the arboretum was either destroyed or damaged. We are in the replanting phase now and need your financial assistance.
Your contribution will provide a long-lasting display of your support for this magnificent landmark and the Newburyport community. Several area Business Owners have been able to promote their services by having their names displayed on garden-style signs in a predetermined location within the Park.

OUR 1ST ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT IS ALSO IN FULL SWING.
Attention All Golfers, and those of us who own clubs! Belleville Improvement Society will be hosting a Charity Golf Tournament @ The Ould Newbury Golf Club on September 20, 2012. All proceeds from this 4 person scramble / best ball event will be dedicated to the maintenance, beautification and preservation of Atkinson Common, an historic Newburyport landmark. The cost is $440 per team which covers fees, carts and great food. We strongly encourage early reservations due to the limited availability. Come join us for a variety of prizes, raffles and tons of laughs! Online registration is available through the "Contact Us" page on our website, www.atkinsoncommonnewburyport.org.
